Sacred Mysteries: Sacramental Principles and Liturgical Practice
Sacred Mysteries: Sacramental Principles and Liturgical Practice
How well do Christians celebrate those rituals that embody their belief? Thirty years after Vatican Council II and 25 years after the revised rites began to be used, it is now possible to reflect on the quality of worship in our churches, and on the degree to which the renewed liturgy has been effective. We can begin to see the celebration of sacred mysteries not merely as prescribed rituals but as actions that illuminate fundamental relationships among human beings and between them and God.

Q&A: How does science justify debunking mysteries without investigation?
Question by : How does science justify debunking mysteries without investigation?
“Explaining away” without proper investigation explains nothing.
I wish science would stop dismissing the observations of honest witnesses.
Most encounters with the unexplained and unknown happen to people with zero interest or working knowledge of the “mysteries” that they stumble upon.
Weird things do not happen to people because they are “believed in.”
Paranormal things become believed in because they are seen and experienced.
Your failure to understand these events in no way negates their validity.
Heaven help those innocent eyewitnesses who stumble across UFOs and “aliens” or “monsters” or “ghosts.” Our “known” laws of our “reality” OFTEN cease to apply. There will always be learned “experts” and “men of science” who just know that all these phenomena are delusions or alcohol-related and act accordingly. Like most of us, they demand a logical and rational accounting for every claim and occurrence. Unlike most of us, where no accounting is available, they invent one, with neither investigation nor specific cause. I have named this perpetual reaction by some individuals to the unexplained and unknown the CUTE (Compulsive Urge To Explain) factor. Despite the acronym, this ridicule isn’t pretty.
Science has been defined as “the study of the physical and natural world and phenomena, especially by using systematic observation and experiment” and a scientist is often described as “an expert in science or somebody who has scientific training or works in one of the sciences.” To quote the late author John A. Keel: “Science has become a sacred cow in this generation but that term is a misnomer. The gender is wrong. Science, by and large, is a lot of bull.”
Read “The Streetlight Effect” by author and journalist David H. Freedman in the July-August 2010 issue of Discover magazine to learn why scientists look for answers where the looking is good, rather than where the answers are hiding.
Try http://www.freedman.com to learn how even top-shelf science and medicine ends up leading us astray more and more often. His latest book is called “WRONG: Why experts* keep failing us–and how to know when not to trust them.”
Most scientists spend their careers looking for answers where the light is better rather than where the truth is more likely to lie.

Sacred Mysteries: Myths About Couples in Quest Reviews
Sacred Mysteries: Myths About Couples in Quest
We should remember that for the ancients, the underworld was both infernal and Elysian; it was a dual realm, part hell, and part heaven. Like marriage. Like any relationship that lasts longer than three months. Sacred Mysteries explores the wonderful treasury of myths and folktales about marriage bequeathed to us by our ancestors, and which we must pass on to our descendants. What we see in the magic mirror of these myths is that deeper part of ourselves created by the marriage relationship.
